I am fascinated by people; the lives they lead, what drives them, their resolve to overcome unimaginable odds.
We are all so different and yet innately so similar.
I have long had a passion for documentary film and being able to peer into someone’s else’s world.

The Price of Sound will be focused around the devaluation of music and how most consumers expect their music for free or virtually nothing. For listeners streaming is fantastic, you can listen to virtually any music that's ever been recorded, as well as discovering amazing new bands from all over the world.
But it can be a career killer for artists.
Many well established bands who are touring the country, selling out some of the UK’s most prestigious large venues and making the cover of international magazines are not seeing the return they would have done when physical sales where the medium of choice. Most bands are still having to have a second job to support them and as a result, some are calling it a day before their time is up as they simply can't afford to carry on. How can we expect our artists to write world leading creative music when they are spending half of their time flipping burgers or serving coffee?

One such band was 'The Blackout'. Named as the "best live band" on the cover of Kerrang! magazine, toured the world but never made more than minimum wage in their 11 years of playing together. The Documentary will follow front man from 'The Blackout' Sean Smith along with 'The Blackout's' guitarist James Davies relaunch their career with new band 'Raiders'.
We will follow along as 'Raiders' decide how they should release a record in the current time? Is trying to sign a record deal even worth doing anymore? should bands crowd fund? How do bands break through the noise on social media? Can and will streaming service actually pay artists fairly? Do fans/listeners actually care enough to pay more for streaming or boycott it all together?

We will be looking at where this devaluation started at Napster and how it progressed through iTunes, the end of the cd boom and into the modern era of steaming.

We will also cover the other issues that face the industry such as: Outdated record label contracts, the struggle of grass root music venues, the defunding of music education in schools and more.

The documentary won't just be artist and industry professionals complaining about the state of the industry but also a celebration of what makes it so special, why bands keep working extremely hard for very little and how the fans who support the bands are so important.
